Week 7

I'm going to try and take  a picture with a cats head. Also I have a shoot lined up with greyhounds. I shot another picture yesterday which I wont be able to put together before class, I don't have photoshop at home right now.

Not something I would shoot but I like ideas. They are clever, maybe I will try something with kiwis etc.

Found this one for Orli

Week 6

http://nathanhinz.com/index.php?/portfolio/

I like his, the only concern I would have would be that the images might fall out when you hold it a certain way.

This is one that I really liked too.

I think I want to make my own book. If I have the time and it's not that difficult.

I really like this for my leave behinds, promotions, etc.

Week 5

I finally have my logo. Stress is over. Now I can relax and work with what I got.
I shot two images this weekend and I really like them. (Post them on Monday)

About the reading assignment. I thought it was very helpful especially about the resume. I need to update my resume, I haven't done this since I started with school. I would really like a creative resume, thought it should fit my theme. I like the one they showed of Alison Murphy.

I also decided I don't want to use color on anything I am creating right now. Not on business cards, resumes and letterheads. If I decide that I want to use color at some point, it has to be something soft and nothing to crazy, like neon pink or yellow.
I thought the Q&A's in the back of the chapter were very interesting.
How Chris Wooster said that ones you are done with the interview write that person a Thank you card but don't write how perfect you are for this job, write about how what I said helped you.
Very good to know, once I apply for jobs.

Week 4

I still have difficulties  finding the right logo. I've been looking so much these past few days and I just can't find one that reflects my type of photography.

I drew some ideas that I will show in class. But I also found some fun ones online.

They caught my eye, even though they might not represent my type of photography I thought people will remember you and will keep your card just because it's a cool looking one.
I was thinking that I would maybe take a picture from my food series and create one with my logo. Like writing my logo on a cookie and then let it blend in with something. I'm not sure it's just a thought.

Side note: I went online and I looked to get my own personal email address for my website. Zenfolio unfortunately doesn't give me one but I looked through google/gmail and this is what I found
I'm going to this as soon as I have my logo, because I might want to use my logo name for the first part of the email address, or should it be: lisa@lisahildebrand.com OR lh@lisahildebrand.com
What if they are already taken? Should there be photography in the email address or just my name since my website is lisahildebrand.com?

Back to the business cards, like I said I have a couple which I like, I just don't know if they fit my style. I don't want people to think "wow this is totally not what I expected after seeing her card" (and not in a positive way). This is giving me a headache because I have to start all over again with the logo. I could use my old logo but I want it to fit my style. I am torn between new and old logo.

I worked on a new pictures this weekend. I'm going to bring it into class tomorrow (Monday). I don't have photoshop on my laptop.

When it comes to the quality of my future business cards, I would like them to be on a thick matte board. Color depends on the design I'm going with. I doubt I'm going use color with my cards.

Week 3

I thought the books they made, in page 16-26 were brilliant. Very clever and creative. Something I would love to learn and have. Finding a logo and portfolio that fit's my brand is hard, and I'm not nearly as close as I thought.

Reflect on Your Work

  • How would you describe yourself in general - your personality, work ethic, beliefs, etc.?
free spirited, funny, smart, and friendly
  • How would others describe you?

Yes, "Quinnjamin" is a reflection of me. "Quinnjamin" is very creative and funny.

I wouldn't mind traveling to meet with a client. Moving on the other hand I wont do.(For now) I'm not alone with my decisions anymore. If I work on something that I love doing and actually having fun with I don't mind working long hours. And if it's something I don't like doing so much, well you have to start somewhere, right?

Week 2

Find your target audience: What are they looking for?
My target audience are people with pets.
Every pet owner wants to own pictures of their pet and I want to give them just that but funnier. My pictures are different from other pet photographers. It's more personal. It's their animal and their character it's very unique.

Find out about your competition: Who are you up against?
My competitors are all pet photographers in Washington DC.
http://www.shelleycastlephotography.com/
http://www.sarariddle.com/
http://www.pawprintsgallery.com/blog/
But none of them are similar from what I do. (So that's good).

Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of your competitions brands.
I have not yet found a photographer who has taken pictures of dogs with their personality. being funny and crazy, they are usually very nicely posed. But then again I have not yet really worked on my brand.

I talked to Barbara Karent, who is an Instructor at Harrington College of Design, if she would be willing to help me find some 'models' for my portfolio. She said yes and we will soon plan a day where I get to meet a lot of pet owners mostly Greyhounds, because Barbara helps out at a Greyhound rescue. I also have three shoots lined up with friends of mine which one of them is a cat owner, which will be interesting because I haven't had to shoot a cat before. This week my blog is a little shorter than last week, I was busy taking a new Quinnjmmin picture and that took a lit of my time.

Write down 5 words that are the most important traits that you want your business to communicate to your clients.
Personal, funny, experimental, unique and clever. This is something that is very personal for people to own. It will have their dogs in the image.

Food

To be honest I have not really had a chance to look for some inspiration yet. But I know that my images will be very creative and unique. I will continue to shoot some more where the fabric blends in with the food objects. I will most likely use the ones I have already and put them into my Portfolio. I will start looking at workbook to find some themes I might continue. (not just food, fashion too, I might use the style and shot it with food.)

Week 1

I am trying to figure out what I can do now for the last three weeks, since I knew about my two inspirations are moving away. My dog and boyfriend. They are truly the best to photograph and because of that Quinnjamin was born. I started this project because first of all I take pictures of the two of them all the time and second of all my dog has the most amazing and funny character that I have ever seen. A lot of people tell us that she's more human than dog.
Anyways I started thinking about that I should start my series with a Quinnjamin picture that I'm going to take in the next few days. This will be #1 for my portfolio. I already have an idea of what this picture will look like. It will be a birthday picture because my birthday is next Saturday and I always wanted one of a birthday.
After that I am going to take other peoples pets and I will creat a photograph just like Quinnjamin but with other people and other dogs/animals (such as cats, I will only shoot cats and dogs).
I looked on a lot of websites and I found a couple good ones but not really what I had in mind or something that came close to it.
Philip Rostron was one of them, his images were very funny and I like when pictures make people laugh. Karen Morgen has some great picture of animals as well. (shown)
Also I found this website of images which I thought great. I want to capture the emotion of the animal and I want to connect it to the owners body. Which sounds weird but also great and interesting.
http://www.designswan.com/archives/21-touching-photos-of-relationship-between-dogs-and-humans.html
People say, I say, that our dogs look like their owner. In some cases they don't but then the character reflects the dogs and/or the owner. I want to find out the connection between the owner and their pet. That something that makes them have "the same" character.

I am more of an conceptual photographer. I like to be creative and try taking something normal and make it into something more creative and clever. I would like to work with someone who edits pictures and whom I can shadow and learn from. There is never an end to on how to use different tools in Photoshop. I like working with people and be creative with them, the same goes with dogs. I also like to lose myself in food photography. And create something great, different, funny and unique.
